Candlestick Phones
Show: Crazy for You
Director: Angelique Ilo
Location: Ogunquit Playhouse
This project was a huge undertaking. We needed 8 white candlestick phones that could withstand being danced with and slammed on the stage. It took a very long time to source assemblage pieces with the right size and shape. In the end I made 10 phones, 2 for back up. The biggest breakthroughs were using the plastic scientific flasks for the receivers, and Keurig cups for the mouth pieces. The bases were just dollar store bowls I very carefully cut down on the band saw. The rounded dowels and the circular joints were all cut individually and sanded down. The phones had to be put together in a specific order (mainly due to the phone cord ending seamlessly in the base). I had an assembly line operation going all the way down to when they were painted. They were all spray painted white and then coated in Plasti Dip for added durability. They survived the run of the show with no issues.
